We are Butternut Bakehouse, a bakery serving charming, rustic handcrafted pastries.

We are a community-centric, small-batch bakery that is growing and expanding our team. We are seeking passionate bakers and prep cooks with a love for artisanal baked goods and an eagerness to cultivate a creative, fun, and consistent café environment.

The position is for our first location in Arlington on Mass Ave. There is ample free street parking off Mass Ave in the adjacent neighborhood.

Our bakers at Butternut bring life into the cafe with warm pastries, delicious smells, and good energy. Their ultimate goal is to prepare high quality baked goods and contribute their creative inspirations to our special and seasonal menus. A successful applicant is friendly, outgoing, and will have back of house skills from previous experience, attention to detail, and be a proactive, community-oriented team player.

You will be part of a small team in a growing business and will have the opportunity to learn many baking techniques.

Shift requirements

We are looking for multiple full time and part time bakers to round out our Back of House team.

We are looking for team members who are available and flexible to work all types of shifts (i.e. morning bakeoff, production, lamination, prep, etc.). Once trained, we are happy to work together on a consistent, regular schedule.

Full-time bakers have the opportunity to work all the stations from laminating croissants, cake decorating, mixing of biscuits, scones, cookie & pie dough etc, to morning bake off pastries to develop well-rounded skills as a baker.

Possible shifts include:

  • Tuesdays through Sundays, 4:30am - Noon

  • Tuesdays through Sundays, 8am - 4pm

  • Mondays, 9am - 4pm

Responsibilities

Our bakers responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Morning bake-off for retail pastry counter and wholesale –pastries, scones, croissants, morning buns, mini cakes, cookies

  • Production of dough

  • Dough lamination - we are looking for experienced candidates

  • Prep work: scooping cookie dough, egg soufflé, wrapping cakes, mix fillings, portioning dough

  • Recipe development

  • Maintain an orderly and organized kitchen

Requirements

  • At least 6 months professional baking or kitchen experience and industry references

  • Dependable transport

  • Strong work ethic and able to work as a team

  • Available to work weekends is important

  • Attention to detail. Able to assess product quality to maintain high consistency of offerings

  • Self-motivated individual with passion for food

  • Dependable, fun and positive attitude

  • Able to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods

  • High standards of cleanliness and quality of work

  • 1 year commitment

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting from $19-$22 per hour depending on experience

    Free drinks, and select pastries, on shift

Butternut Bakehouse requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Due to cyclical surges in COVID-19 cases, we also have an adaptable mask policy and under certain conditions will require wearing a mask on shift.
